The Physiotherapy College for the Visually Impaired in Ahmedabad University is one of the two College in India conducting a programme in Physiotherapy for visually challenged students. The College was established in August 2005 to function independently in the premises of the School for Deaf-Mutes Society. The programme offers a Diploma in Physiotherapy, which is of three years duration with six months compulsory internship.

The College has grown in many ways since its inception and has enhanced its pedagogy to impart the same education to special needs students, that regular students acquire. The classes are conducted by recording and replaying live lectures, one-to-one practical demonstrations with accurate and high-quality anatomical models and are topped off with an online exam format. Over the years, it has become well known for its unique teaching methods, contemporary syllabus and excellent management of students’ placements after graduation.

Diploma in Physiotherapy for the Visually Impaired

A 3 years and 6 months programme with a compulsory Internship

  • Through this programme, the students’ successfully acquire the skills and capability to treat patients
  • The students develop the ability to practice Physiotherapy by themselves doing home visits or in a clinic setup
  • Provide avenues to gain future knowledge for students after graduating to keep themselves professionally updated
  • This programme not only helps to shape visually impaired students career but also helps in transforming them as individuals
  • There is confidence building that adds value to their personality, behaviour, communication skills and overall conduct
  • Team working skills are learnt to help students collaborate between patients and doctors. They understand how to play an active role of being a therapist in a rehabilitation team
  • After their graduation, students may open their own clients, work in private or NGO based clinics, do home visits or work as consultants in hospitals.

Eligibility

Any student who has passed HSC examination from any stream with English as a subject and civil surgeon certificate of visual impairment (40%>) with age not exceeding 35 years.
